Pros
The benefits are great and the culture is getting better. The work-life balance has gotten substantially better with flexible work arrangements. This saves driving time and gas money both of which are invaluable when you have children. The added perk of being able to attend courses at a substantial discount is the best pro in my opinion.
Cons
The salary is less than average compared to other similar colleges and universities in the area. They are doing their due diligence to hire at the bottom of the pay ranges to not overspend on salaries as student enrollment continues to trend downward.

Current Employee, more than 5 years
Pros
Job opportunities in industry are decent.
Cons
Extremely low PhD stipend. Hostile work environment.
-
Current Employee, more than 3 years
Pros
The wider resources available to graduate students on campus are nice, if not well-known or advertised within individual departments.
Cons
Unfortunately, the stringent requirements about obtaining employment outside of your GA/TA contract make it impossible to live on the stipend by itself. Loans, familial/spousal financial support, or having a secret weekend job are necessary for survival.

Current Employee, more than 10 years
Pros
Focus has shifted away from research and the climate across campus is geared to improving student graduation and retention rates.
Cons
Leadership is horrible, Deans do not remain and academics have dropped to low levels, programs are struggling and too many part time instructors. Student enrollment is low and hard to fill positions. No funding and support for faculty is exhausting with a big push for athletics to be the face of the school.

Pros
Great staff and faculty and welcoming environment. The people who work at UA truly care about the students and want to make a difference (and certainly do). Love getting to empower students to make life decisions and help them grow personally and professionally.
Cons
Hard to progress into higher roles and it's easy to quickly hit a ceiling in career growth. Pay is on par with higher education industry, but the higher education industry is known to pay lower than most others.
-
Pros
helping people, the best advisors,
Cons
location of the university is not safe
